- Biography
Dr. Celine Ayala joined the Sociology Department at Georgia State University in 2023, shortly after completing her Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of New Mexico. Dr. Ayala's research examines Afrolatinx experiences of Blackness framed within an Afrolatin Critical Theory of Race to investigate how Afrolatinx folk are racialized through a transnational history of colonization, imperialism, and antiblackness. Dr. Ayala is the former representative and one of the founders of the Afrolatinx Caucus within MALCS (Mujeres Activas en Letras y Cambio Social), the founder of the only Black research program in the state of New Mexico called Umbuntu Research Program at the University of New Mexico, a member of the Black Latinas Know Collective Network, and a former TEDx Talk speaker. When not working on her many projects, she is working on her craft as a musician and poet.
