As a lecturer in women’s, gender, and sexuality studies at GSU, I can integrate my courses with the topics I am researching.  In upper level courses, for example, we explore dominant structures, such as capitalism, imperialism, heteronormativity, white supremacy, and of course, sexism, in order to discover the multiple and complex ways they impact our lives.  Furthermore, we analyze the subject-positions made available within these institutions as well as the variety of the ways in which individuals and communities navigate these positions.  Currently, I am interested in two projects:  the first explores pedagogy and the construction of subjectivity in women’s, gender, and sexuality studies classrooms in the context of teaching transnational issues and navigating the relationship between individual trauma and systemic oppression. The second explores histories of social change organizing to analyze how queer and anti-racist organizing have become polarized within Atlanta.
