Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies students may take WGSS 4950, Internship, and receive 3 hours of course credit while working at a site that relates to the field. A WGSS internship provides students with the opportunity to combine academic study with practical experience in an organizational setting specializing in attention to women’s, sexuality, and/or gender-related issues.
The prerequisites for WGSS 4950 are WGSS 2010 and WGSS 3010. Interns work 150 hours for the term she or he is registered for WGSS 4950 (ordinarily 10 hours a week during a regular semester and 21-22 hours a week during the 7-week summer session.) The internship site may be a state or government agency or a private or non-profit organization. Interns will perform work assignments that are varied, meaningful, and that carry a fair amount of responsibility. To apply for an internship, complete an internship application form and deliver it to your WGSS internship faculty advisor. Interns are responsible for finding their own intern sites.
WGSS 4950 is offered during the regular Fall and Spring semesters and during the 7-week Summer Session. It is not offered during the Maymester or other minimesters. WGSS 4950 cannot be repeated.
